The software made up in cooperation with S.P.E.R. Energia srl and with DIMES  Engineering Dept. (University of Calabria), allows intelligent control of the wind turbine yaw when critical current values are reached. The variation of yaw essentially has the same effects as the variation of pitch in the case of bigger wind turbines, in managing energy peaks. The controller Nylor essentially acts by keeping the instantaneous value of the current under control and upon exceeding a certain critical threshold by modifying the angle yaw of the wind turbine with respect to the wind direction. The wind turbine nacelle is immediately corrected with respect the optimal point, in order to correct the angle of attack α over airfoils and then to decrease lift and generated current. The software, entirely developed in C language, is extremely fast and able to self-learn the behavior of lift forces thanks to short-time series models. A few working prototypes of Nylor controllers are actually running some 90kWp Vestas V20 wind turbines located in Calabria region (Italy).
